Sabah Games: Sandakan cement grip on medal standing

Kota Kinabalu: Sandakan strengthened their position at the top of the table standing in the 10th Sabah Games (Saga) with another gold medal won on Sunday.

They now lead with six golds, two silvers and five bronzes as at press time on Sunday.

Nuremilda Jazeemi Jali @ Jalit delivered their sixth gold medal by capturing the women singles title in the lawn bowls event held at the Keningau Sports Complex in the afternoon.

She defeated Tenom’s Adilah Justine 17-16 in the final to claim the gold and in joint third place were Beluran’s Nurul Shazwanie Suardiansah and Kota Belud’s Aleeya Adriana Ade Azlhan.

The men’s singles gold went to Keningau’s Edver Rivaldee Holiday who beat Jellneson Joanis from Tenom 21-16 while the bronzes went to Novre Noh Christiefecient (Pitas) and Asmirul Aarispadillah (Kota Belud).

Keningau also won another gold in the men’s fours event through Elldy Maxcanzie Zosmi, Alvandino Antoni, Darren Davy and Ezequiell Junaidh @ Junaidih. 

They brushed aside Beaufort’s Mohamad Raziq, Muhammad Shazwan Hakemi Sa’adan, Mohd Hazwan Mokran and Mohammad Rabain Ahmat Kechil 17-3 in the final, and in joint third place were Muhamad Iqmal Rizam, Muhammad Khairil Darmansjah @ Darman, Airil Iman Mohd. Nin, Muhammad Alif Haiqal Mohd Shaiful (Beluran) and Mohammad Raihan Norkizan, Mohammad Rafidani Norkizan, Mohammad Rahime Norkizan, Mohammad Syameel Ruamin (Kota Kinabalu).

In the women’s fours, Kota Belud’s Nur Zarifah Wajihah Zaidi, Aleeya Alyssa Aade Azlhan, Dania Intissar Dzulkernain and Nur Sandra Qyra Mohd Jufree took the gold with a 12-4 victory over Tenom’s Suzileyana Zosmi @ Ronny, Zella Aaron Atin, Jeavegracie Jod and Nurul Shaheerra Rosley.

Joint third place went to Nurfatin Nazierah Sabardin, Jillian Jill Jesseylin, Nur Insyirah Hawani Mohd Ghazihan, Nurfarah Azierah Sabardin (Beluran) and Nur Effa Nazira Donny, Najwatul Fadilah Jonaidi, Nur Munirah Amani Abdullah, Nurafeqah Qhalisah Alham (Sandakan).

Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu broke their duck for the gold medal with two coming from Mohd Aiman Danial and Nur Shaqina Sari in the petanque shooting events.

Aiman defeated Papar’s Muhd Hazlami 18-6 to take the men’s gold while in third place was Kota Belud’s Abraham Junior following his 17-14 win over Putatan’s Muhd Ruzaimi in the playoff.

Nur Shaqina Sari on the other hand, beat Tawau’s Maxivianna 15-9 in the women’s final and third place went to Keningau’s Marysa Apple who defeated Ranau’s Adcey Nicole 12-9 in the playoff.

With the two gold medals won, Kota Kinabalu are now second behind Sandakan with two golds, two silvers and three bronzes followed by Keningau with two golds, one silver and two bronzes.
