BEAUFORT: Police have arrested more than 80 drug addicts and pushers in the district so far in an effort to stop them from luring youth into this unhealthy lifestyle.

District Police Chief, Yusoff Zaki Yaacob, said police here are aggressive in curbing crimes including drug abuse, illegal gambling activities as well as on the illegal immigrants. “I want to remind the drug addicts and pushers that they will face action. We will take action against all those involved in drug activities.

“Police will not compromise with all those involved in drug abuse and illegal gambling as well as the illegal immigrants,” he said during a discussion with the Lumadan Native Chief, Mohamad Bakar, here recently to discuss social and security problems in the district.   Yusoff Zaki also thanked the community leaders for their collaboration in helping to fight crimes, saying the duty should not be placed on the shoulders of the police alone as they need the cooperation from all members of the community. During the discussion, Mohamad had raised concerns about the worrying drug activities especially in the villages here, apart from the illegal gambling activities and the presence of illegal immigrants. He said the illegal immigrants are also believed to be behind the theft cases, especially in the villages and farms.
