Duo charged with drug trafficking

Kota Kinabalu: Two men were separately charged at the Magistrate’s Court here Friday with drug trafficking.Unemployed Leong Vui Vun, 42, allegedly trafficked 83.16gm of syabu at 3pm on June 13 at a unit, on the second floor of the LPPB flat, Jalan Tanjung Aru, Tanjung Aru.

Self-employed Mohd Faizal Mohd Daud, 37, was accused of trafficking 62.12gm of syabu at 12.12pm on June 12 at the roadside of Jalan Sepanggar, Kg Lok Buno, Manggatal.
No plea was recorded from both Leong and Faizal after the charges against them, respectively were read to them.
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a punishment with either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.
The prosecution applied for another mention date pending the chemist’s report and applied for the accused to be remanded further as the charge against them has no provision for bail.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie set mention on Aug 26 and Aug 15 for Leong and Faizal, respectively. The accused were also ordered to be remanded further.
In another case, a 29-year-old man was charged with harassing a borrower under the Moneylenders Act.

Fong Tze Shiong was accused of acting as a money lender harassing a borrower on Facebook as well as threatening the borrower through phone calls at 4.23pm on Aug 31, 2019 at Telipok town.
He was charged under Section 29B(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 which provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 or jail term of up to two years or both on conviction.
The court fixed July 27 for pre-trial case management and released Fong on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.
