we hope for a greater awareness of the ongoing Urban Tamu, held monthly at Riverson, which provides a platform for small to medium businesses,” said Andrew Lee, co-organiser of Urban Tamu.
Kota Kinabalu: This year’s International Jazz Day celebration around the world kicks off on the last day of April and Sabah is fortunate to have its own Jazz event to celebrate the occasion. The third official Sabah Jazz International Jazz Day Celebration is scheduled for April 30. Organised by the Sabah Human Development and Empowerment Association (SAHDEA), this time around, they are teaming up with the organisers of Urban Tamu and the event will take place at Riverson from 12pm to 6pm. Together, they have come up with a special edition of the popular street market naming it “Urban Tamu X Sabah Jazz”.

Listed on Unesco’s International Jazz Day celebration, Sabah Jazz brings together communities, learning institutions, artistes, academics and jazz enthusiasts in celebrating jazz music. Lecturers, professional musicians and students from University Malaysia Sabah, Sabah Institute of Arts, RTM and many more will also be participating in this year’s event. “Sabah’s highly talented jazz band, the Blue Note Band, will be the event’s headliner. The other jazz performers are Jess & The Deaf Katz, Angelyca Laura, neojuice and Aphrodites of Sabah Institute of Art.

“We are excited to announce that as a give back to the community, this year’s Sabah Jazz has teamed up with Urban Tamu where the event will be open to the public for free and it will be a much more casual affair,” said Jessel Yansalang, who is SAHDEA’s Vice President.

“This collaboration with Sabah Jazz and SAHDEA is a great opportunity to promote the tourism industry through music and local events. With this effort, we hope for a greater awareness of the ongoing Urban Tamu, held monthly at Riverson, which provides a platform for small to medium businesses,” said Andrew Lee, co-organiser of Urban Tamu.
