Kota Kinabalu: New and existing entrepreneurs need to take full advantage of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their business.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the MSME Last Week is a suitable platform to bring products or rural services to enter new markets.

“Therefore, the Week held every year can be used by those who are interested in finding opportunities.

“At the same time, this program also gives exposure to existing entrepreneurs regarding finance and sector development programs.

“It is also in line with the government’s efforts to develop MSMEs affected by the pandemic,” he said in conjunction with the National Entrepreneurship Week 2023 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Sunday.

The text of his speech was delivered by the Deputy Chief Minister who is also the Minister Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan.

Hajiji also expressed happiness because in conjunction with the National Entrepreneur and MSME Week, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and agencies are ready to train and offer financing related courses to ensure product marketability.

“Of course, there are various other fillings throughout the week to ensure MSMEs in this country are more competitive.

“For those that have successfully penetrated the international market, always take care of quality and adhere to standards.

“In today’s modern era, MSMEs also needs to apply technology in their business, not only in terms of production but marketing.

“I want all PMKS, especially in Sabah, to always equip themselves with the latest technology, improve the quality of their products and packaging in order to be able to compete with products from outside,” he said.

He said, MSMEs also need to be prepared to face Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) compliance challenges in the business ecosystem this year.

“Although ESG is still in the early stages of implementation, it will be a milestone mainly to measure the ability of PMKS in building a strong workforce and increase business opportunities including abroad.

“It will also ensure that PMKS can penetrate the supply chain of large firms and domestic and foreign multinational companies that request exporters have a timeline to meet ESG compliance for product supply marketing as well as service,” he said.

Hajiji hoped the programme can attract entrepreneurs from the youth, B40, and people with disabilities.

“This is the best platform to empower all youth entrepreneurs,” he said.
