Kota Kinabalu: Two more records were broken by Tambunan’s athletes in the track events in the 10th Sabah Games on Wednesday.

Abernetha Elissa Tadius set a new time of 14.96 seconds (s) in the women’s 100-metre (m) hurdles to win the gold medal.

The old record of 15.15s was set 10 years ago by Agnes Lescoin Philip from Penampang.

Ranau’s Veeronica Seibit came in second behind Abernetha with a time of 15.49s and Keningau’s Cassandrsa Joanna Patrick was third in 15.59s.

The other record was set by men’s 100m silver medal winner Dexter Bedie who ran a 22.02s in the semi-final of the men’s 200m event to smash Kota Belud’s Muhd Din Norbik’s six-year-old record of 22.09s.

Both men’s 100m winner Hanssen Yap Soon Fu and bronze medallist Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam did not take part in the event.

The finals of the 200m events are scheduled to be held today (Thursday) at 3.10pm.

Only three finals were held in the track and field events on Wednesday.

In the men’s 5000m, Lahad Datu’s Nikos Tai Lee On captured the gold medal in 16:54.92s followed by Beaufort’s Mohd Ahsan Atta Ur Rahman (17:27.12s) and Kota Kinabalu’s Muhd Dzulfikri Matin (17:27.65s).

Youth and Sport Minister Datuk Ellron Angin (in checkered shirt) poses with the Keningau rugby players after the medal presentation.

However, the men’s team had to dig deep before defeating Sandakan 12-7 in extra time sudden death after both teams tied 7-7 in normal time while the women’s team had an easy task by thrashing Tuaran 17-0 in the final.

Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu remain on top in the table standing with 11 golds, four silvers, 10 bronzes followed by Sandakan with eight golds, three silvers and seven bronzes and Tawau in third place with five golds, five silvers and four bronzes.
