Mayor: Good initiatives to continue with new ones

Kota Kinabalu: The city is lucky as the previous mayors had built a solid foundation for their successors, said Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah.

“They (previous mayors) had put a strong base, in terms of governance and the implementation, monitoring, delivery methods and cleanliness maintenance,” he said when met during his walkabout at the Api-Api Night Food Market, here, on Friday.

“We will carry out new initiatives with the help of the State Government.

“We will continue any good initiatives, and I am confident they (previous mayors) have scrutinised the long-term projects.”

On his walkabout, Sabin expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness level of the area.

“However, it can still be improved, especially in areas like the back alley of the shop lots and the privatised public toilets.

“We found the toilets are dirty, and City Hall will instruct the owners to clean them.

“We also found that illumination is satisfactory, but we will add more lights in certain spots to attract visitors, including laser light shows, which will be further revealed later.

“These light shows would attract more visitors, from out of district and State, to experience something extraordinary here.

“The city is located by the coast – it is beautiful and exciting.

“Some of these plans would be implemented this year,” he said.
