Kota Kinabalu: Former international Rozami Abd Rahman will miss Sabah FC II ‘s  MFL Cup match against  Perak FC II at the Likas Stadium on Tuesday (May 28).

The attacking player who was signed by the management to boost the team this season started in the 0-3 loss to JDT II in the opening game last week.

Team manager, Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali said the local lad suffered an injury during the JDT II tie and they will not risk him before he is fully recovered.

“He needs a hundred percent rest to recover from the injury before taking to the field again,” he said on Saturday.

Despite his absence, Kassim is confident the team will bounce back from the disappointment and head coach Johnny Dominicus can work out the right strategy to record Sabah FC first home win of the season.

“We are confident that Johnny will be able to get the plan right for the match on Tuesday following the loss to  JDT II.

“We need to learn from the experience and must rectify our weaknesses before the Perak FC II match.

“We may have lost the JDT FC II match but overall I am satisfied with the commitment shown by the players.

“We managed to keep them at bay for almost 40 minutes and the spirit shown by the players must be maintained,” he said.

He also called on the home fans to come to the Likas Stadium in large numbers to support the team.

Meanwhile, Johnny had earlier said the lack of competitive pre-season matches was the main reason the team did not perform to their potential in the JDT FC II match.

He hoped the experience will open the players’ eyes and they will be able to play better in the coming matches.

Against the JDT II side featuring several Malaysian Under-23 players including Fergus Tierney and Najmudin Akmal Kamal Akmal, Sabah FC ‘s defence was able to withstand the pressure and only conceded the goals late in each half
