RM500 bonus for civil servants
The State Government will give a bonus of RM500 to every civil servant in Sabah in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

This was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal when officiating the distribution of Raya cookies to security enforcement agency heads during a ceremony held at the Yayasan Sabah auditorium, Tuesday.

He said payment will be disbursed within the next few days before Hari Raya itself. It is understood a total of RM10 million has been allocated for the 21,021 civil servants in Sabah.

He said although Sabah’s financial situation is currently not that healthy, the State Government has agreed to give the bonus with the civil servant’s welfare in mind.

“We hope this will at least reduce the burden of State civil servants in conjunction with the festive season,” he said. Earlier in his speech, Shafie said despite the current State financial slowdown, the State Government will do its level best to assist what is needed for the security forces and to provide comfort to ensure the safety of the State and the country is well-secured.

“We realise and know that the roles of those in the security forces is not easy, the responsibility they carry is a heavy task that takes not only commitment, dedication, hard work but sometimes their lives,” he said.

He said it was only right for appreciation and gratitude be extended to those in the security forces who have devoted their lives to ensure peace and security in the State.

“The sacrifices they make and having to leave behind their family and children to ensure we are safe is indeed invaluable, no words can express how appreciative we are to them,” he said.

On another note, he said, the people should also play their role and be responsible to ensure efforts in ensuring security is inclusive and not only the responsibility of security forces.

He urged the people not to be in cahoots with elements that can threaten security and to channel information should they across anything with possible threats. – Sherell Jeffrey
