TAWAU: An 33-year-old unemployed man was charged in the Sessions Court here Monday for allegedly sexually abusing his 12-year-old daughter in March.
The accused pleaded not guilty before Judge Rosli Ahmad after the charge was read to him.
The man is accused of sexually assaulting the victim in an unnumbered house in a village in Semporna at 12.01am on March 5.
The accused is charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides for a prison sentence of not more than 20 years or can be fined or whipped or both, if convicted.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Suhaimi Suriana did not offer any bail for the accused because the offence is unbailable.
The accused said he did not have a lawyer and informed the court that the victim had withdrawn the police report against him.
The court then set June 11 for re-mentioning of the case.
