Murder: Remand extended

LAHAD DATU: The remand of 13 teenagers, being held over the death of 17-year-old vocational college student Mohammad Nazmie Aizzat Muhd Narul Azwan has been extended until April 4. All the suspects were detained on March 22 and remanded for seven days.

The remand order expired today (March 29).

The Magistrate’s Court on Friday allowed the extension. The suspects were brought to the court at about 9.20am.

The teenagers were being held for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

On March 23, Daily Express reported that 13 teenagers, aged between 16 and 19 were detained following the incident.

The victim was found lying unconscious on the floor at about 6.50am before confirmed death by Lahad Datu Hospital personnel who arrived at the scene for emergency treatment.

Police found injuries and bruises on the victim’s body, which was sent to the Forensic Department of Lahad Datu Hospital for post mortem.

Police later detained 13 male students to assist in investigation.

On Saturday, Police revealed that the incident was caused by misunderstanding between the victim and his hostel mates.

The victim was accused of stealing RM85 from two hostel mates and beaten to his death.

But it was also alleged that the victim had voiced displeasure over thefts.
