Tawau break-in: Man with 33 records among 2 held

TAWAU: Two local men, including an unemployed with 33 previous criminal records, were arrested in connection with a break-in at a sundry shop in the district.

Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the two suspects, aged 39 and 19, were caught in separate operations on Tuesday in follow-up investigations of the break-in which the shop owner reported on April 26.

He said one suspect’s record involved offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Prevention of Crime Act 1959.

“The older suspect was arrested in the Jalan Tanjung Batu area while the teenager was arrested at the Hilltop area along Jalan Ytara in the district,” he said in a statement.

He said police also seized the teenager’s mobile phone, adding the burglary involved cash and sundries.

Jasmin urged the public to continue channelling information of criminal and drug activities to the police.

“Give us information (even if those breaking the law are) family members, neighbours or residents of your community,” he added.
