WHILE we are looking at the fastest growing careers in Malaysia, we should also know what is happening outside our country. There are many developed countries around the world and we must be aware what is happening over there too.

Let us take the US for instance, whatever is happening in the US will sooner or later reach Malaysia. If we know what careers are growing very fast in the US, we can be prepared what to expect in Malaysia in the near future.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the US Bureau of Labour Statistics, there are about 20 occupations with the highest projected percent change of employment between 2021-31.

Although the data refers to the US, let us for the sake of knowledge look at those careers. Sooner or later the trend may spread to other countries such as Malaysia. Students who are still in school now, can plan accordingly.

Nurse practitioners

Nurse anaesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners coordinate patient care and may provide primary and specialty healthcare. Nurses are not only in demand in the US but all over the world.

Chefs

Cooks season and prepare foods, including soups, salads, entrees, and desserts. Good Chefs work all over the world. Many restaurants, cafes, hotels, hospitals, Clubs and food outlets in the world including  Malaysia depend on skilled  Chefs.

Data scientists

Data scientists use analytical tools and techniques to extract meaningful insights from data. This is a new emerging career in Malaysia too with lots of opportunities.

Athletes and sports competitors

Athletes and sports competitors participate in organised, officiated sporting events to entertain spectators. When there are World matches, look at how the Malaysians react to sports. Sports has become an in-thing in Malaysia.

Information security analysts

Information security analysts plan and carry out security measures to protect an organisation’s computer networks and systems. You would have heard of the scams happening around you. Many people have lost their money and wealth because of scams. This is another career which is growing very fast.

Mathematicians and statisticians

They analyse data and apply computational techniques to solve problems. Whether it is in Business or Health we need data to plan. Remember the Mysejatera App during the Covid-19 period?  Without Data it would be impossible to plan ahead.

Umpires, referees, and other sports officials

Umpires, referees, and other sports officials preside over competitive athletic or sporting events to help maintain standards of play. International sports has grown leaps and bounds. Players are paid millions of dollars by Clubs and countries. Ultimately all these International sports would require qualified sports officials. Malaysia too would require these officials if they are going to be involved in International sports.

Web developers

Web developers create and maintain websites. Digital designers develop, create, and test website or interface layout, functions, and navigation for usability.  Social Media has taken over the print and electronic media. To compete, promote and sell goods and services top quality web developers are in need not only in Malaysia but all over the world.

Animal caretakers

Animal care and service workers attend to or train animals. People have taken pets into their homes. Their pets are their loved ones for some people. They go to any extend to give their animals the best care and love. In Malaysia it is not so different.

Choreographers

Dancers and choreographers use dance performances to express ideas and stories. Music, songs, dances and movies have no political or cultural borders. The entertainment industry is growing very fast. It has also become a very competitive industry demanding creative and skilled professionals.

Medical and health services managers

Medical and health services managers plan, direct, and coordinate the business activities of healthcare providers. Over the last two years the whole world has been torn apart due to epidemics, diseases and health phenomena. As a result more and more qualified and well trained professionals are needed to monitor and manage this sector.

Call taxis

Passenger vehicle drivers operate buses, taxis, and other modes of transportation to take people from place to place.  If you notice, people prefer to call a grab rather than drive to their destination in many places. To keep people moving continuously, you need drivers.

Logisticians

Logisticians analyse and coordinate an organisation’s supply chain. On-line businesses have conquered the consumer market. People prefer to do their shopping on-line. The manufacturers, distributors and merchants depend on logisticians to ensure that goods are delivered on time. This has created a demand for this occupation world wide.

Physician assistants

Physician assistants examine, diagnose, and treat patients under the supervision of a physician. The medical and health care business is very sophisticated. People want the best health care for their money. Gone are those days when a doctor runs a clinic with a school drop out to man the front office or the clinic. Today customers are demanding qualified assistants.

Physical therapist assistants

Physical therapist assistants and aides are supervised by physical therapists to help patients regain movement and manage pain after injuries and illnesses. This has created a demand for well-trained therapists in the health care sector.
