Although the STPM and SPM results are out, there are still many students who have not opted to go for further studies.

Due to financial constraints, these students feel they need to work and  support their family.

They have already been studying for the last 12 years or so and now it is time to repay to their families.

If you are caught in this situation, don’t despair. There is a special route for you.

You can keep your job and at the same time you can continue to study. All you need is determination, will power and hard work, to succeed. This week let us explore this option.

OUM

Open Learning University or OUM in short was set up by the government.

In August 1999, the Minister of Education invited Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn Bhd (METEOR), a consortium of 11 public universities in the country, to set up an Open University.

This led to the establishment of OUM in August 2000 followed by its launch on 26 August 2002 by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

With the motto “University for All”, OUM believes in the democratisation of education, giving everyone a chance at self-actualisation and fulfilling their potential.

Today, OUM offices are found throughout Malaysia.

Flexibility

You may be working on shifts, you may work at sea, or you may work the whole night.

However, when you have some free time you can study. You can tailor your studies at your convenience.

You may study at your own pace, anytime, anywhere, without having to sacrifice your work or personal interest.

OUM  Learning Centres allow you to attend classes or seek advice without having to travel far. Look out for centres near you.
