The Malaysian automotive market continues to evolve as we enter 2025, with consumer preferences reflecting a focus on affordability, fuel efficiency and reliability.

Here are the top five used cars of 2024 that have resonated with customers, according to Carsome, highlighting trends that drive the local used-car market.

1. Perodua Myvi

Known for its practicality and affordability, the Perodua Myvi has seen continuous enhancements since its introduction in 2005. The third-generation Myvi sees safety features such as six airbags, hill start assist, and advanced safety assist, earning a five-star Asean New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) safety rating.

With a 1.3L or 1.5L engine and automatic transmission, the Myvi’s hatchback design, paired with a compact yet spacious interior, makes it ideal for urban and family use.

2. Perodua Bezza

Launched in 2016, the Perodua Bezza is a compact sedan that combines practicality with affordability. Equipped with a 1.0L or 1.3L engine and either manual or automatic transmission, the Bezza is known for its fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs.

Safety features such as dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), vehicle stability control, and advanced safety assist in higher-priced variants enhance its appeal, particularly for families and e-hailing services.

3. Honda City

The Honda City has been a reliable choice in the sedan segment since 2001. From the sixth-generation model onwards, the City offers 1.5L petrol paired with variable transmission (CVT). There’s also a hybrid variant that promises excellent fuel efficiency, making it a cost-effective choice for eco-conscious buyers.

The sixth-generation Honda City boasts features such as brake assist, ABS, dual airbags, and Isofix child seat mounts as standard. Additional safety features include hill start assist as well as side and curtain airbags, depending on the model.

4. Proton Saga

Malaysia’s first national car has been a reliable contender since 1985. The latest version of this compact sedan features a 1.3L engine with either manual or automatic transmission.

With a 420L boot and practical interior layout, the Saga is suitable for daily commuting and family use. Key safety features include ABS, electronic brake assist, traction stability control, and hill start assist, which contribute to its four-star Asean NCAP rating.

5. Toyota Vios

A compact sedan introduced in 2003, the Toyota Vios has built a reputation for reliability. Since 2016, the Vios features a 1.5L engine with CVT.

Depending on the model year, it includes seven airbags, vehicle stability control, and traction control as standard across all variants. Additional safety features include ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, and Isofix rear child seat anchors.
