KOTA BELUD: A total of 50 participants attended a two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) and Hands-Only CPR course held recently at the Kota Belud Hospital KRT Hall.
The programme, conducted from May 16 to 17, aimed to enhance emergency response knowledge and skills among participants and personnel in preparation for the BIGBIGPLACE Kadamaian Adventure Race (KAR) Ultra 2026.
The ultra-trail running event, known for its challenging routes, is scheduled to take place from July 24 to 26 at D’Sawah Tambatuon Guesthouse.
Javadius Bollah, president of the Kadamaian Adventure Race (KAR) Club, said the programme was important to ensure organisers and participants possessed basic life-saving knowledge to handle emergencies during the event.
“This course was organised as an early preparation for KAR Ultra 2026 as the event involves challenging trails and participation from runners from various places.
“We want to ensure participants, volunteers and personnel have basic knowledge related to CPR and emergency assistance so that immediate action can be taken should any emergency occur at the event location,” he said.
According to him, participation fees for the course were fully sponsored by the KAR Club.
Throughout the programme, participants were exposed to various emergency response techniques and training, including adult CPR for one and two rescuers, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Ambu bag usage, emergency response for choking cases involving adults and infants, as well as infant CPR.
During the Hands-Only CPR session, participants were taught the correct chest compression technique as an initial life-saving measure before medical assistance arrives.
Among the instructors and speakers involved were Dr Mexmollen Marcus, Dr Jewel Bollah, Dr Muhammad ‘Uzair Mohd Jahini, Dr Mohd Azizan Abdullah, Mohd Syazrie Haziq Robin, Wellsent Ming and Fredolyn Nerius.
Javadius added that the response to the programme was encouraging and that the club would continue organising safety and emergency response training programmes in the future, especially as preparation for emergencies involving sports or extreme activities.
