Sandakan: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will purchase 40 more mobile generator sets to increase power supply in Sabah. Its senior general manager (operations), Peter Lajumin, said each set could generate one megawatt of electricity and that they would be stationed in areas facing a critical shortage of power supply in the east coast of Sabah.
"This step taken by SESB is a short-term approach to overcome the shortage of electricity supply in Sabah right now which has forced us to ration electricity to consumers," he told a press conference here Friday.
Peter added that at the moment SESB had 20 mobile generator sets which had been stationed at several critical districts across Sabah but they were insufficient to meet the rising demand for electricity in Sabah.
The utility had come under flak recently because of frequent power outages in the east coast of Sabah.
