Sabah now ranks sixth in SME numbers

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah now ranks sixth nationwide in terms of the numbers of small and medium enterprise (SME).State Industrial Development and Research Department Deputy Director Stephen Sampil said the number of SMEs had grown five per cent per annum from about 41,000 in 2011.To further boost the profile of the sector, the Sabah Industrial Development Ministry and Sabah Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Corporation Malaysia, will jointly organise the 4th edition of SME Week Sabah from May 27-31.

It will provide SMEs an opportunity to showcase their products, programmes and also recognise the role and contribution of Sabah's SMEs in promoting business and economic progress.Sampil said three main events would form the backdrop of the week, namely an SME Seminar, SME Info-Sharing and SME Carnival.The SME Seminar and SME Info-Sharing will be held at the Sabah Trade Centre on May 27, with the presentation of a working paper related to SMEs and, at the same time, info desks will be organised for participants wanting to obtain more detailed information on SMEs, he told a press conference here, Friday.The SME Carnival from May 28-to 31, will be staged at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) in Penampang, in conjunction with the State-level Kaamatan Festival.
