Putatan: Three years in the wilderness, and Sabah's Prodigal Son finally returned to claim the Champion of the Champions title at the Mr Sabah Bodybuilding Championship on Saturday night. After representing Putrajaya from 2012 to 2014, 39-year old hulkster Riano Engah came home at last and was immediately crowned winner in the Light Middleweight category, beating four others before flexing his way for the coveted Champion of the Champions title.

Training at One Fitness Keningau gym, the father of three claimed his third title in 2015 after being crowned Mr Benak Sarawak and Champion of the Man of Steel contest in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year.

"I will try to do my best next month during Mr Malaysia. It is my hope and dream while at the same time, improve my placing in the competition," he said adding that his best placing so far was at fourth place.

Engah, and all the other winners of the eight open categories will represent Sabah squad to the Mr Malaysia Bodybuilding Championship, set to be held from June 5 to 8 in Labuan.

Last year, the squad bagged one gold medal, two silvers and three bronze with last year's hero Henro Lee brought home the gold in the Masters' category.

This year, in the Light Flyweight category, Jirin Arafat Kunal of Warrior Gym came out on top while Fredolin Kimin of MJ Gym and Bairik Gumarang of Hard Gym claimed the second and third spot respectively. Jamain Korop of MJ Gym won the Flyweight category, beating Abdul Mat Sali of Body Arts Gym and Vincent Gumarang of Hard Gym who were placed second and third.

In Bantamweight category, Body Arts Gym's Wickson Kihog was placed first ahead of Md Hakimi Abdullah of Khalefa Gym and Amran Aman of Borneo Hardcore Gym who were the first and second runners ups respectively.

Herman Stephen of Borneo Hardcore Gym beat Ijoh Gustin Salimpah of MJ Gym and Maikol Masain of Hard Gym in the Lightweight category.

In the Welterweight category, Melvin Louis of C-Times Gym surprised onlookers when he beat PDRM's George Saligi and Rozally Golbin of MJ Gym while in the Light Middleweight category, Engah defeated last year's Sabah's representative Rosliee Suyut of Hard Gym and Mohd Riduan Kasim of PDRM.

It was quite a battle in the Middleweight category when the ten-member juries had to take a closer look on PDRM's George Jaimon and Justin Sompong's Gym's Christie ML Cletus but eventually settled for the former.

Faizal Garukan of Labuan was given the third spot.

Last year's bronze winner in the Mr Malaysia championship Geinod Lozitin of Mesotropin Gym will have an opportunity to improve the colour of his medal this year at the Mr Malaysia competition after he was again named the winner in his category, the Light Heavyweight category, beating PDRM's Mohd Asyraf Akhmal and Tawau Super Gym's Md Nashriq Md Hashim.

Jamain Korop was named the Most Improved Bodybuilder while Jauneh Leman of KB Hardcore Gym was honoured as the Best Poser for his most entertaining posers during the whole competition.

The event was organised by Sabah Amateur Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) with the collaboration of the State government through the Youth and Sports Ministry.
