New strategic plan to further strengthen security in Esszone
Papar: State Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said that there will be a new strategic plan to further strengthen security in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone). However, he did not elaborate. He said this when asked about the latest development in the East Coast.

He was speaking during a State police headquarters visit to the Sri Pritchard old folk's home in Kinarut here, on Monday (pic). He said sending elderly parents to old folk's home should not be an option because it is the responsibility of every adult children to care for those who once cared for them.

"Your parents cared for you when you were in need and completely helpless, thus it is only fitting that you make sure your parents have what they need in their old age," he said during his brief speech.

The visit which began at about 10am was held in conjunction with the 208th Police Day anniversary and also involved members of the Sabah Police Family Association (Perkep) led by its Chairman Datin Siti Aishah Harun.

The home which was established in 1994 is administered by the Sabah Welfare Services Department and currently provides shelter to some 87 elderly residents, comprising 50 men and 37 women.

Residents were entertained to songs performed by the State police band and also treated to a buffet lunch.

A washing machine, toiletries and goodies were donated to the home which comprise residents, some of whom are bedridden and on wheelchair.

Later at the media conference, Jalaluddin said such visits will be included in the annual programmes featured during the Police Day anniversary each year.

"I encourage every district police chiefs to conduct such visits in their respective districts. Our aim is to get closer to the elderly citizens, to show them our concern and care," he said.
