Homes for 139 Kinabatangan families
Kota Kinabatangan: MP Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said 139 families, 90 of them victims of floods in Pangkalan Bukit Garam who have been moved to the new evacuation centre in Kampung Pelangi, will be given a better house. He said the Government would be providing the houses to the victims to ensure their safety as well as giving them a comfortable home.

"It is also a step taken by the government to reduce the huge money needed to be spent each year when it floods in Pangkalan Bukit Garam and surrounding areas," he said.

Bung had also suggested to the District Office to provide land for them to plant crops through a cooperative that would be set up soon. His office would be providing fishing equipment to the families who are fishermen.

Bung said this during the dialogue with the flood victims that was also attended by District Officer, Yassin Nasir, Umno Kinabatangan deputy chief, Jafry Ariffin and district councillors.

Meanwhile, he said the names that had been overlooked would be given houses under the hardcore poor housing programme.

Bung said he would request to the District Office to give the families ample time to move from Pangkalan Bukit Garam, which had been planned to be developed into a recreational and tourism centre.
