Tawau: There will be no letting up in organising the biennial Sabah Games (Saga) as the State government is committed to ensuring Sabah continues to have a pool of potential and talented athletes at its disposal.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the effort to unearth and expose more potential athletes in various sporting events was also in line with the National Sports Policy in order to achieve national and international sporting excellence.

"The State government will continue to develop sports in the State. Through the Youth and Sports Ministry and agencies under it, we will continue to build, provide and improve sports facilities, assist in the organising and participation of sports in the state, national and international level," he said.

He also assured that the State government would continue to provide annual grants to state sports associations as well as provide incentives as well as recognition to sportsmen and sport bodies that achieved excellence.

Speaking at the opening of the Seventh Edition of Saga at the Sports Complex here on Monday, Musa said the National Sports Policy was part of the government development initiative involving all sections of the people that revolved around sporting excellence.

Hence, it is an important government agenda to make sports a daily living routine of the society that is the foundation towards creating a sporting nation, he said.

Musa then called on all the elected representatives in the State to continue to be active in supporting and promote sports culture as well as to assist in creating more knowledgeable and high-performance athletes.

"We also have sports facilities of national and international levels that are not only being used by the people for sports and recreation but also as a training centre for high-performance athletes," he said.
