Penampang: Native Chief Andrew S Lidaun said he supports District Officer Luvita Koisun's proposal to relocate the Tamu ground in view of the regular congestion on Tamu days from Wednesday evenings to Friday afternoons. There are only two roads going through the town and the traffic starts crawling in the afternoon during Tamu days because some vehicles are even triple parked by patrons going to the Tamu and also the nearby supermarket.

"Sometimes it nearly takes half an hour just to pass the town on the way home from my office at the mini secretariat building," said Lidaun.

The traffic congestion from the Tamu also creates a gridlock effect on two nearby roundabouts.

Lidaun also referred to Daily Express report where a shopkeeper was beaten up over Tamu parking space by suspected foreigners who also do business there.

"If nothing is done about this Tamu problem now, Penampang will soon have a new court case called road-and-parking rage" Lidaun said.

When asked where he thinks would be the ideal location of the new tamu, Lidaun said this should be the responsibility of all the communities and leaders where they should unite and put their heads together.

However when it comes to the design and layout plans, Lidaun has plenty of ideas.

"It should be like the Kota Belud Tamu where there are different sections allocated for different activities such as 1: Food & drinks, 2: Clothing, 3: Fruits and vegetables, 4: Fish, 5: Chicken and other meat products.

"There should be a stage for local shows and the buildings designed to reflect the native traditions so the Tamu becomes a tourist attraction. The floor should be concreted and proper drains provided to prevent smelly stagnant waters from the kitchens, and of course plenty of parking space." He said.

The implementation of the new tamu takes a long time so we should start now, said Lidaun.

"When the new District Officer came in last year, she was known to be strict and firm in her decisions, hence I hope the new Tamu will be completed during her term," Lidaun added.
