Samas athletes still the best

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Masters Athletics Association (Samas) maintained their reign as the top team in the country after they returned with 57 gold, 20 silver and 10 bronze medals from the just concluded 39th Malaysian International Open Masters Athletics Championship in Kuala Lumpur.Their Men athletes contributed 31 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze medals while the women won 26 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze medals.

Aliudin Jumaat, Alfred Lajawa, Pius Kondokor and Juliana Gumpil won four gold medals each while the women relay quartets led by Julaina Gumpil also won gold in the 4x100m and 4x400m.

Contingent leader, Aliudin Jumaat was very pleased with the performance of the athletes and said better preparation and international exposure helped them to shine in the championship.

He also extended his appreciation to the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sabah Sports Council for their continuous support to Samas and also to those who made this participation a success.
