New platform for bosses in Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: The Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI) will be focusing on setting up a Sabah Employers Association in the State with the target registration within this year.According to a FSI statement, the move is high on FSI's agenda as it would be Sabah's first and legitimate platform to carry the State's employers' voices to the Federal authorities on pertinent issues.This was highlighted during FSI's recently concluded annual meeting on June 20.

The new association will touch on relevant issues such as minimum wages and other laws pertaining to labour and manpower, among others.Apart from this, FSI has also embarked on a restructuring exercise which sees the creation of additional positions and portfolios to cater to the needs of various industries along the entire value chain of key economic sectors.This has seen the appointment of one president, two deputy presidents (previously one) and six vice presidents (previously four).It is envisaged that the new office bearers will be able to accord focused attention to specific sectors under their purview, and thus serve the members, sectors and industry better.

Numbering about 200, FSI members' companies occupy different industry tiers from primary to secondary and tertiary, which are crucial for Sabah's economy and contributing significantly to economic output, and providing hundreds of thousands of jobs throughout Sabah.The new line-up of the FSI Council (2015-2016) sees a number of enthusiastic young entrepreneurs and professionals drawn from diverse industry sectors, contributing much-needed new and fresh ideas while being groomed for future leadership.

The strategic Think Tank comprising successful business leaders and professionals will be activated very soon.
