M'sia advance to last eight of 2015 World Junior Squash

Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian girls' team proceed to the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Junior Squash Championships held in Eindhoven, Netherlands after beating fourth seed, Hong Kong 2-1 in their third Group D match at Squashtime Centre, early Sunday. Malaysia, the fifth seed, had to come back from behind before stunning Hong Kong to emerge as the Group D champion and setting up a last-eight match against Group C runner up, New Zealand, late Monday.

Malaysia, coached by Andrew Cross, will wrap-up their group match against hosts Netherlands on Sunday.

In the match against Hong Kong, Malaysia were trailing 0-1 after the country's top junior player, S. Sivasangari lost 14-16, 9-11, 13-11 and 9-11 against Choi Uen Shan.

Andrea Jia Qi Lee, however, levelled the tie for Malaysia after defeating Ka Wing Ho; 12-10, 11-8, 9-11 and 11-8 in the second match before Zoe Foo Yuk Han sealed the winning points when he beat Hiu Lam Lui; 11-9, 11-7 and 11-5 in the deciding match.

On the victory, Andrew praised his young charges but acknowledged the threat from New Zealand when both sides meet in the quarter-finals.

"They all played well but we haven't won anything yet, now we need to prepare for quarter-final (match)," he said as quoted in the tournament website;www.wsfworldjuniors.com.

Despite the defeat, Hong Kong who were also the 2005 champion, emerged as the Group D runner-up behind Malaysia and faced a daunting task against group C winner, England, who were also five-time champions, in the quarter-final match, late Monday. – Bernama
