Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has joined in the chorus to hogwash the call by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan for Umno to stand alone in the next general election claiming other Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties are simply incapable of winning any seat. LDP Youth Chief, Tsang Hieng Yee said it was a pity that some leaders were still stereotyping Malaysians according to races.

"Malaysia is a unique country like no other because it comprises people of various ethnic background since the day of its formation. It is this diversity that makes Malaysia unique and stands out in the world arena.

"(So) such unhealthy and obsolete mentality does not bring any benefit but shall halt our country's advancement further," he said here Monday.

According to him, the Malaysia of today was not created by a single race but instead, it was derived through the perfect combination of hard work, skills, knowledge and ideas of all Malaysians from different ethnicity.

Tsang concurred with the view of other component leaders that the effective governance of a country does not depend on winning seats alone.

On the contrary, the ingredients for a prosperous country are many which include, among others, social stability, economy advancement, hardworking and educated workforce, savvy entrepreneurs and investors, learned academicians and many other positive qualities.

He said such arrogant suggestions would only break up Malaysians further.

"There is no other formula for peace and advancement for a country like Malaysia except unreserved unity and love among all Malaysians," he said.

It was recently reported that Mohamad had criticised BN component parties in the state for being ineffective and suggested to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that there was no necessity to accommodate and provide seats for the component parties in the state.

"There's no need to give them seats, they want to become ministers, just give them senatorship so they can become senators," he added.

However, online report stated on Monday that Mohamad had extended his apology to those who had misunderstood his message in the speech at the Umno meet recently.

"If that was what the listeners thought I said, then I apologise," he said, adding that it was the first time he had made a public apology for the sake of BN.

"I am not apologising because I made a mistake, as I did not say it, but this is to clear the situation," he said.

Mohamad said BN component parties and those in the state would know him better than to make such a statement.

"The state management had never sidelined any race, we are very fair," he said.

"We are still stuck with the same formulas, we must review our strategies," he said. One of the considerations, he said was that Malay areas in the state be given to Umno to increase the chances of winning.

"I also suggested that when we take seats from the component parties, we give them senatorship as an exchange,"

"There was no ill-intention, just suggestions to strengthen the party." he added.

Mohammad believed he was misunderstood as he was speaking using the Negeri Sembilan dialect.
