Niosh Malaysia visits CDC in US

Kuala Lumpur: A Niosh Malaysia delegation led by Federal Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri Richard Riot visited the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) of Niosh USA in Cincinnati, Ohio, to study the works carried out by the CDC with regard to matters concerning occupational safety and health at the workplace. Accompanying the Minister was Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, NIOSH chairman and Ayop Salleh, Executive Secretary of Niosh.

The Malaysian delegation was given an overview of Niosh USA operations by its Associate Director for global collaboration, Dr Andrea Okun.

The Minister pointed out that Niosh Malaysia hopes to collaborate with Niosh USA on a wide range of matters pertaining to research and development and other areas which could benefit Niosh Malaysia.

The matter will be pursued between the two organisations in due course.

Niosh USA and Niosh Malaysia share the common aim of ensuring a safe and healthy working condition for the workforce and preserve human resources.

The Malaysian delegation exchanged views with Niosh USA on the need to transfer knowledge and research into workplace practice to prevent work-related injury, illness and death.

Lee stated that Niosh Malaysia could learn from its counterpart on matters concerning the conduct of R&D to reduce work-related illness and injuries, education and information dissemination as well as promoting safe and healthy workplace through the transfer of research findings, technologies and information into practice.
