Putra Jaya: The Bersih 4.0 rally, which proposes to hold an assembly this weekend, is not a registered organisation, says the Home Ministry. Its Secretary-General Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim said that apart from operating illegally, investigations revealed that Bersih 4.0 had created an environment of anxiety and raised uneasiness among multiracial, multi-religious and multi-ethnic Malaysians.

He said it was also found to have spread propaganda to incite the people negatively against the Government by distributing certain leaflets which could be detrimental to the country.

"Its various activities could further damage the image of the country and threaten national public order, security, economic prosperity and sovereignty, as well as affect the harmony of the multiracial community in Malaysia," he said in a statement here Tuesday.

In this regard, the ministry has urged the people not to attend and participate in the assembly this weekend which did not get the approval of the authorities.

Meanwhile, some 30,000 people are expected to turn out in a march against the Bersih 4.0 rally on Aug 29 at Dataran Merdeka.

Addressing a 200-strong crowd clad in red shirts in front of the Sogo Shopping Complex, Coalition of Malay NGOs head Datuk Jamal Yunos said the initial venue for today's rally was Dataran Merdeka.

"Out of respect for the ongoing National Day preparations, we decided to gather at Sogo instead. I requested most of the NGOs to return home for the sake of public tranquility," he said, adding 2,000 were meant to attend.

Jamal stated the protesters will comprise of various government supporters from various states throughout Peninsular Malaysia. "We will assemble at Low Yat Plaza in the morning, before heading to Dataran Merdeka via Jalan Pudu," he said.

If the Bersih organisers were to call off their rally, Jamal said he would do likewise.

"We will protest peacefully, but should anything happen there can be no guarantees of anyone's safety, as we will vigorously defend ourselves," he said.

To that end, Jamal said the anti-Bersih participants would be left to their own devices.

"However I have taken steps to ensure all of them will have accident insurance coverage," he said.
