Fake document as IC: Filipina jailed

Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old Filipina was jailed 18 months for using a fake document as her identity card.Jumnadah Akmad pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to using the fake late registration for identification card under the name Carolyn Anni.

The offence took place at 7.30pm on Aug 19 this year in front of the Chemistry Department at Mile 2½, Jalan Penampang.

She committed the offence under Section 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which provides for a jail term of up to three years or fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000, or both, on conviction.

After serving her jail sentence, Jumnadah was ordered referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.

The court heard that Jumnadah was arrested by police after she produced the fake late registration for identification card.

The document was brought to the Luyang police station and confirmed to be bogus after checking through the M-Cap system.

In the same court, 10 locals and four foreigners were jailed and fined for taking syabu.

Eleven of them were jailed four and five months each after they pleaded guilty to taking the drug at different places in the city, Penampang, Sembulan, Inanam and Menggatal in June and July this year.

Meanwhile, three of them were ordered to pay a fine of RM1,700 in default eight months' jail each for committing a similar offence.

The court ordered the locals placed under police supervision after paying their fine or serving their jail sentence and the foreigners referred to the Immigration Department.

Inspector Isfandiar Jasli appeared for the prosecution.
