Selangor: A teacher in SMK TTDI Jaya, Shah Alam, who ordered a Hindu student to remove the vibuthi (holy ash) on his forehead and a holy bracelet he was wearing, has been transferred. She had also slapped and kicked the student. His parents lodged a police report.

The teacher, who is close to retirement, was said to be mentally unstable and was slack in taking her prescribed medication.

The school presented MIC representatives who visited on Thursday with the transfer letter and apologised for the incident.

The parents said the Education Department should evaluate teachers with psychiatric issues periodically to keep students safe. The teacher was said to have been recommended for transfer a few months ago.

After the latest episode, she was immediately ordered to move to the district office and undergo medical evaluation.
