98pc of MAS staff accept job offers from MAB

Kuala Lumpur: Some 98 per cent of Malaysian Airline System Bhd's (MAS) employees who were offered employment with Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) have accepted their offers, said Khazanah Nasional Bhd.Khazanah in its fourth scheduled update on the ongoing restructuring of MAS for the June 1 to Aug 31 period said about 13,000 employees had commenced work with MAB on Sept 1, out of which 9,000 are on permanent employment while the rest on short-term contract employment. "In addition, there are a total of 2,000 employees of subsidiaries such as Firefly, MASkargo and MASwings," said Khazanah in a statement Wednesday

Khazanah said MAB was issued the Air Operator Certificate and Air Service Licence by the Department of Civil Aviation, and formally commenced its first day of operations on Sept 1, and this marked the official transition from MAS to MAB.The transition is a key component of the 12-point MAS Recovery Plan (MRP), which was announced by its parent company, Khazanah, on Aug 29, 2014, to restructure the national carrier and set it on a path towards sustainable profitability."The restructuring continues to show sustained progress in all key areas under the five-year MRP," it said.Khazanah said about 75 per cent of MAS's employees who did not receive employment offers from MAB had registered with the Corporate Development Centre (CDC) for training and job placement support.
