MCA Sabah wants more seats
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah MCA will lobby for more seats to contest for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election, said its Chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong."We will lobby for more battlefields, including parliamentary seats, to help BN safeguard this 'fixed deposit' State," he said.

He said he would strive to find ways to strengthen MCA Sabah so that it could face the next general election in its best possible form.

"Sabah MCA does not want to be confined to existing political boundaries and is particularly keen on new seats following a redelineation of electoral boundaries," he said after opening the Sabah MCA Wanita annual general meeting (AGM), here, Sunday.

"I had earlier conveyed the MCA central leadership's wish to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for MCA Sabah to play a role in the Government to enable it to address and solve the people's problems more effectively," he said.

Sabah revenue hits RM6.97 billion: Hajiji says GRS State Government may see full term
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.
Wee, who is also MCA Deputy President, said the party was working on how to win the Luyang and Kepayan state seats. The Luyang seat was won by Dr Hiew King Cheu on a DAP ticket. Hiew subsequently joined MCA.

He added that MCA Sabah had drawn up strategies to be well prepared for the coming general election and it was in the process of identifying and selecting potential candidates for the election.

Meanwhile, Wee said the racial tension that has arisen lately is worrying.

"A Chinese proverb says that timing and geographical advantages are not comparable to human harmony. Unity among all the races is our only winning formula. Harmony among the people is of utmost importance for any nation at any point in time.

"The racial tension of late is worrisome. We had the so-called 'yellow shirts' gathering, followed by the 'red-shirts' gathering.

"Regardless of the intended claims by the organisers of these 'coloured' gatherings, they showcased a thick sense of racial singularity and would easily be interpreted as a racial gathering eventually," he said.

He added that such gatherings could become a threat to the racial harmony that has been built and cherished over the years. Citing Sabah and Sarawak, Wee said, racial harmony in these two states is a point worth learning for all Malaysians.

"In these two states, the Government and the people share the same aspirations, they do not differentiate one another and they respect and support each other.

"Racial unity in Sabah is the role model for Malaysia and the world. Likewise, MCA Sabah's unity must also be the role model for MCA as a whole.

"When we are in a state so proud of its racial unity, we cannot afford to allow our own comrades to not be united or to fight among themselves."

Wee also said that when the 'good people' in Sabah is mentioned, it refers to the level of unity among Sabahans that has been the role model for all Malaysians.

"It has never been an issue for Sabahans of different ethnicities to live under one roof and dine in the same restaurant. The racial harmony and unity is best reflected here," he said.

Also present, Sabah MCA Wanita Chief Datuk Agnes Shim and party delegates.
