Tawau: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed said he has no intention to become the premier again after 22 years of running it as he is already old. He, however, is ready to help in terms of ideas if required for the betterment of the nation.

"I am old, can't even say things right, but if you want me to help I still can. I have a lots of ideas but people don't want to listen …(but) becoming Prime Minister once is enough," he said.

He was responding to a question by a member of the public during the 40-minute question and answer session in conjunction with the Bicara Negarawan Tun Mahathir Sabah Edition programme organised by KIJ Resources at one of the hotels, here, Monday.

Mahathir also did not reveal the name of his preferred candidate for the post.

To another question, he urged Umno members to push their MPs to back a no-confidence vote against current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak if they want him to step down.

"Unfortunately, the MPs do not have the courage." Dr Mahathir blamed Najib for the economic downturn, depreciation of the Ringgit and implementation of GST.

"If Najib said I am in Tawau to instigate … I admit I'm 'instigating' but with good intentions.

"I'm here to explain as I'm seen as being not happy with the Prime Ministers after me (Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib). Actually, it's not that I'm unhappy. The person is good but the behaviour is not good. I can't accept those who spend the people's money without considering the people and the country's development."

He said he did not "suddenly" dislike the Prime Minister, in fact he worked hard and backed Najib so that Najib would be like his father who developed the nation, but that Najib changed after being given the No 1 post.

Mahathir also said he was not anti-Umno, in fact he still believed in Umno and the BN concept but was not in agreement with the Umno leadership.

Over 5,000 people turned up for the talk and welcomed Mahathir as well as took the opportunity to snap pictures during his arrival and while he was leaving.
