Council of Datuks can play a vital role: CM
Kota Kinabalu: The Council of Datuks Sabah (MDNS) can play a vital role as a 'link' between the Government and the rakyat not only in the context of development but also from the social, economic and community perspectives.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said this is because the majority of MDNS members are made up of civil servants, irrespective of whether they are still serving or have retired.

"As such, directly or indirectly, most of the members of MDNS are those who have been involved in the implementation of government policies. Therefore, they are well positioned to continue their services in our effort to build a society that is dynamic, progressive and successful," he said at the Patron's Night 2015 to mark the 62nd birthday of the Head of State Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Juhar Datuk Mahiruddin.

The text of his speech was read by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Datuk Abu Bakar Titingan.

Musa, who is State Finance Minister, noted that the current 60 members of MDNS comprise former high-ranking government officers, corporate figures, politicians and NGO leaders.

In striving for success and excellence, the CM reminded the Council to be wise in deciding on its objective and target.

"At the same time, we must also exercise wisdom in determining our priorities. This matter is most significant, especially in an organisation because it will then ascertain our halatuju (direction).

"Given that the MDNS leadership echelon consists of individuals who have wide experience in formulating strategic planning, I am confident the Council will become the best platform for continued service to the community," he said.

Tun Juhar, who is the Patron of MDNS, was accompanied by his Consort, Toh Puan Datuk Seri Pangima Hajah Norlidah Tan Sri Datuk R. M. Jasni.

Almost 1,000 people attended the function at the Dewan Bankuasi, State Assembly Building. It was organised by MDNS headed by Datuk Claudius Roman.

Among them were State Assembly Speaker Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali, Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid, State Attorney-General Datuk Mariati Robert, Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datuk Asnimar Sukardi, MDNS Adviser Datuk Seri Dr Clarence Bongkos Malakun, State Commissioner of Police Dato' Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Global President Datuk Alexandra Chin and President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) Datuk Seri Dr T.C. Goh.
