Five opposition reps in walkout
Kota Kinabalu: FIVE opposition members walked out from the State Legislative Assembly, Thursday, in protest over the House accepting a special motion to bar Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Vice President Nurul Izzah Anwar from entering Sabah.PKR Api-Api assemblywoman Christina Liew who initially objected to the motion was seen leaving the House together with PKR Inanam assemblyman Dr Roland Chia, Moyog assemblyman Terrence Siambun, and two DAP elected representatives Sri Tanjong assemblyman Chan Foong Hin and Likas assemblyman Junz Wong.

They walked out during a vote-call for the special motion. Opposition leader Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin was absent throughout Thursday's proceedings.

In a press conference later, Liew said they did not agree to the special motion to be debated in the House as there was no a proper notice although the Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnson Tee stated that the House accepted the submission of the special motion on Nov. 23. She said all the opposition members in the House were taken by surprise by the tabling by Tanjung Papat assemblyman Datuk Seri Raymond Tan and were not fully prepared to debate the motion.

She noted that other backbenchers especially from the Barisan Nasional (BN) appeared ready and fully prepared to debate the special motion that include barring those who have connection with the Sulu militants and for Nurul Izzah and Tian Chua to be investigated under appropriate laws.

"We feel that the special motion has elements of political agenda as Nurul Izzah has yet to be proven to have committed any offence in a court. Innocent until proven guilty.

"I did mention in the House that any motion to ban her entry to Sabah should be done after and if the court has made a decision on her situation," Liew said.

She said what was stated in Tan's special motion about Nurul Izzah were merely allegations and accusations. In fact, Liew said Nurul Izzah regretted her action and has even apologised to the people of Sabah. She said there are other important issues that can be brought for debate in the House instead of Nurul Izzah taking photos with Jacel.

Meanwhile Dr Chia alleged there is a photo of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak with a self-proclaimed Sultan Sulu, but the date and year the photo was taken was immaterial.

Siambun told reporters that it would be better that the State Government debate a motion to cut ties with the Philippine Government as the latter has enacted a law to continue claiming Sabah.
