Two killed in car-trailer crash in LD

Lahad Datu: Two people were killed after the Proton Saga FLX they were in collided with a trailer at Km 38 Jalan Silam, here, Thursday.Haliman Majid, 33, and Nurzaini Zainuddin, 23, succumbed to serious injuries at the scene.It was learnt that they were heading towards Lahad Datu from town while the trailer came from the opposite direction.

District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said preliminary investigations found that the slippery road conditions had caused the Proton driver to lose control of the vehicle which cut into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the trailer. He said the impact caused the Proton to be dragged about 10 metres, with the driver and his passenger trapped inside. Meanwhile, District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Mohd Apandi Mahmood said his department received a distress call at about 2.16pm and deployed nine fire and rescue personnel to the scene.He said they arrived at the scene at about 2.40pm and took about 10 minutes to get the trapped duo out from the vehicle.
