Sabah DAP Chief suffers shock defeat

Sandakan: Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament, Jimmy Wong, suffered a shock defeat when he was ousted as the DAP Sabah Chairman at its convention, here, Sunday.Jimmy's former deputy, Wong Tien Fatt, who is also Sandakan Member of Parliament, was elected to take over from Jimmy for a two-year term.A total of 21 candidates vied for the 15 posts at the convention held at the Sandakan Kenalanmu Seafood Restaurant, here, which was attended by 92 delegates.

Under the DAP's election system, the 15 candidates with the most number of votes will qualify to be in the State DAP Committee, after which the 15 will elect among themselves to the various positions.A total of 92 delegates took part in the election which was attended by around 250 participants. Jimmy only received 33 votes. Likas Assemblyman, Junz Wong was the last to make it to the 15-member committee when he received 57 votes.Wong received 58 votes and came in 12th.

Two others who suffered the same fate as Jimmy were former Vice Chairman cum Sri Tanjung Assemblyman, Chang Fong Hin when he only received 32 votes while former Secretary and Kapayan Assemblyman, Dr Edwin Bosi received only 33 votes. Both were aligned to Jimmy's camp.
