Kota Kinabalu: The 'Pertubuhan Sukarelawan Pencegahan Dadah dan Jenayah Malaysia' (SPDJM) Sabah and Labuan branch has set a target of attracting 5,000 volunteers this year. According to SPDJM headquarters Chairman Roshazreel Roslan, the organisation aimed to provide assistance to government agencies.
"We will focus on providing assistance that includes supporting and cooperating with government agencies in terms of work force for operation or enforcement programme to the Police, Welfare Department, and Anti-Drug Agency Malaysia (AADK)," he said in a press conference at Hotel Kinabalu Daya, here, Saturday.
He said to date there are more than 1,000 volunteers throughout Malaysia.
"Sabah is very active in volunteerism, and most of our volunteers are coming from the State.
The interesting part is not all of them are youth. We have people pitching in to help out and become a member," he said.
He said a total of 300 people signed up to join the SPDJM Sabah and Labuan branch at the open interview, here, Saturday.
Meanwhile, Roshazreel said the organisation would set up two SPDJM squads under the operation and rescue squad in June this year.
"All members selected in the squad must undergo continuous training that will be conducted by the organisation's officers," he said.
Before being recruited in the squad, he said members will have to undergo a screening test, urine test and a background check.
