Keningau: The Federal Government has been urged to give back all the rights of Sabah as agreed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.United Sabah Alliance (USA) Chairman cum Star Sabah Chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the State Government had endured difficulties in the past 53 years because the Federal Government had taken all the powers from the State Government.
Other than that, he said, the Federal Government is seen to be indifferent to the security problem in Sabah, especially its immigration issues and fake identification cards issued to foreigners.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey urged the Government to consider the fate of paddy farmers who could not plant paddy this year because of the drought, pointing out that some areas have been so badly hit that villagers do not even have clean water for drinking.
At least, he said, the Government could help solve the problem by providing clean water supply to the villagers.
Jeffrey also called on the locals here to open more lands and get involved in agricultural activities to counter the bad economic situation.
He also visited Kampung Bingkor where he saw dry paddy fields and the shrinking level of Bayayo River.
The Government is seen to be unconcerned by the sight of so many oil palm trees planted just next to Bayayo water plant, covering thousands of acres. Water problems were unprecedented in the area because no timber was cut and the land remained undisturbed previously.
The same situation is observed in Sg. Pampang where a water plant was built but the Government allowed certain people to obtain the 5,000 acres of land surrounding it and plant it with oil palm trees.
