class="text-uppercase fw-semibold">Kota Kinabalu: Seventeen schools statewide last year joined 109 other schools nationwide in benefiting from the Giant Love My School programme.The Giant CSR programme which recently concluded in the State also saw the rollout of its programme for 2016 on Saturday.

According to Giant East Malaysia and Brunei Head, Marius Knight, the effort was part of Giant's commitment to being a responsible organisation which went far beyond just profits.

"We are concerned about the wellbeing of our communities, especially in areas where we operate.

"In this programme, each of the Giant stores has reached out to aid a school with the main objective of providing physical infrastructure support to uplift and upgrade the schools.

"We have a total of 17 stores in the State which have adopted 17 schools. Through this programme, each school has received RM5,000 for this initiative.

"For the projects rolled out in 2015, I am pleased that the big-hearted Giant Sabah team gave their full support and commitment to the programme."

Marius said their purpose was also to introduce and launch its 2016 Giant Love My School Programme where this year Giant had allocated RM85,000 for 17 schools in the State.

"Under the 2016 programme, we will continue to support the schools and the details will be released in due course."

He said this in his speech at the Giant Love My School programme 2015 conclusion appreciation luncheon with the headmasters of each school adopted and the store managers and 2016 launching at SK Sacred Heart, Karamunsing, Saturday.

The Giant Love My School programme is an outreach programme which provides a better learning environment, greater facilities and experience for teachers and students. The programme is executed across Malaysia at each Giant store and the total funds for the programme stands at RM630,000.

Under its Love My School CSR programme, Giant stores nationwide are encouraged to engage with schools closest to them in order to provide physical infrastructure support to uplift and upgrade the schools.

This effort is part of its CSR programmes which include the Giant Love My Community, Giant Love My Planet and Big Hearted Giants all of which are designed towards Giant giving back to the community as a caring retailer.
