Preserve unique cultures: CM

Tawau: The presence of many different ethnic and religious communities in open houses clearly shows a strong bond between the people and the culture of respecting others is still strong in the State, despite facing many challenges.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said that is the basis for the purpose of holding an open house which is now also celebrated in peace and harmony with other races."We must defend this unique culture so that it can be continuously enjoyed and not only as a guarantee of prosperity among the people but also as an attraction to outsiders," he said at the Chinese New Year open house held by the Tawau parliamentary office at Sabah Chinese High School hall, here, Saturday. Musa said Sabah's political stability is an important formula in ensuring the continuity of development.

Towards this end, Musa said the State Barisan Nasional (BN) is determined to continue to work and go down to the ground and meet the people."As a ruling government, we are responsible to carry out the trust entrusted on us through the mandate given by the people and of course, we will continue to work hard so that people get the best," he said.However, Musa said, good cooperation between the two sides (government and people) would guarantee the success of the Government's efforts to care for the people.More than 3,000 people of various races and religions attended the event which also saw various modern dance performances, singing and lion and dragon dances.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Mary Yap, who is also Tawau MP, Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs Datuk Jainab Ahmad, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.Earlier, Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and his wife Toh Puan Norlidah R.M Jasni led a group of distinguished guests to the event together with Sabah State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali.
