Kota Kinabalu: State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has confirmed probably for the first time in recent years in the State Assembly, in a government policy statement, that Sijil Anak Negeri (Native Certificate) issued after 1982 were "fraudulent". "The issuance of the certificates had been frozen since 1982."

"So, whatever certificates were issued after that was fraudulent and was done by irresponsible individuals."

He added that testimonial letters, as recommended by the Native Court, will be issued by the Sabah Government on a case-by-case basis.

Hajiji was responding to Likas Assemblyman Junz Wong who was taking his cue from the cancellation last Friday of Kota Kinabalu MP Jimmy Wong's native certificate by the Native Court.

Hajiji told the State Assembly on March 28, 2012 that Jimmy's native certificate would be revoked.

An investigation by the Sabah Government, said the Minister, found that Jimmy was not qualified to claim Native (Orang Asal) status.

"Although Jimmy claimed to have Kadazandusun ancestry, the investigation found this to be untrue."

"Jimmy's birth certificate showed that his parents were Chinese."

The native certificate was issued to Jimmy by the Native Court of Kota Kinabalu after he applied for it in 1981.

Jimmy has since initiated a suit against six people for RM150 million in damages, after challenging the Local Government and Housing Ministry to prove that his native certificate was fake.

Chief Judge at the Kota Kinabalu Native Court, Yeo Boon Hai, said the testimony given by Jimmy was found to be "unclear and doubtful".

The Panel of Judges which included John Anthony and Karim Ujud, he added, had doubts about Jimmy's testimony.

The Kota Kinabalu MP has announced that he would be appealing against the decision to strip him of his native certificate.
