Fake MyKads: Two foreigners jailed

Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old foreign man who bought a fake MyKad for RM1,000 was jailed 16 months and fined RM3,000 or four months' jail on Thursday.Alowisus Leo admitted before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having the fake document bearing the serial number 830715-12-5611 at 11am on April 25 along Jalan Bantayan, in Inanam. Pleading for leniency, Alowisus said he has to support his parents. When asked by the court on how he had obtained the fake MyKad, Alowisus said he bought it for RM1,000 from an agent who was introduced by his friend.
Meanwhile, another foreigner, Azlan Alibasa, was handed 18 months' jail for committing a similar offence.

Filipino Azlan, 30, pleaded guilty to having a fake MyKad bearing the serial number 890308-12-5381 at 10.46am on April 15 at the Penampang By-pass, near here.
Both Alowisus and Azlan were charged under Section 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulation, which carries a jail term of up to three years or fine on conviction. They were ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentences.
In the same court, a man, Neomer Vector, claimed trial to stealing a handbag.
Neomer was accused of committing the offence along with an accomplice still at large at 12.27pm on April 22 at the CKS Trading premises in Donggongon town, Penampang.

The court set May 13 for case management and ordered Neomer, who holds a MyPR, to be remanded further.

In another case, 31-year-old Najmi Mohd Said was fined RM3,000 or eight months' jail for having 7.56gm of syabu at 6.21pm on Aug 28, 2015 at Sembulan.
