Boost for Sabah soft tennis

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah soft tennis received a boost after the state association received an official invitation to have their players trained with the Korean national team in August.Sabah coach KK Chin disclosed this after the state body was presented free tennis balls as well as rackets from the Korean Soft Tennis Association President Young Il Yun at the Kota Kinabalu Tennis Courts, Thursday.

"The Koreans confirmed that they are inviting Malaysia, with all Sabahan players, to train with the Korean national team and later take part in the Korea Cup Championship.

"They will sponsor three girls and three boys with all expenses paid, but we can send more players if we want to but will have to bear our own expenses.

"It is a privilege to be invited by one of the powerhouse in the sport and the date is on August 20 for a duration of three weeks," he said.

He thanked Young for the invitation as well as the tennis balls and 10 rackets.

Meanwhile, the handing over of the national flag by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan to the Malaysian contingent for the South East Asian Soft Tennis Federation (SEASTF) Malaysia International Open & Junior Soft Tennis Championship 2016 was held at his office, Wednesday.

Also present was the Ministry permanent secretary Haji Awang Damit Haji Anak.

The tournament will starts today at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex tennis courts until May 1 with players from 10 countries taking part.
