79 members gain from St John Ambulance Malaysia camp

Sandakan: Seventy-nine members from 13 secondary schools in Sandakan, Kinabatangan and Beluran participated in a three-day St John Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) Sandakan District Cadet NCO Leadership Course Camp, at SMK Sandakan 2, Sibuga Road, here.The schools are SMK Sandakan, SMK Sandakan 2, SMK Elopura Bestari, SMK Elopura 2, SMK Pengiran Galpam, SMK Batu Sapi, SMK Merpati, SMK Libaran, SMK Gum-Gum, SM St Michael, SM St Cecilia, SMK Beluran and SMK Bukit Garam.Among activities at the camp were setting up of tents, aerobic exercises, stretchers and foot drills, as well as CPR lectures given by medical officer from Hospital Duchess of Kent, Sandakan.

St John Ambulance Malaysia also provided a variety of recreational activities for the participants.SJAM Sandakan Area Commander, Tan Chuan Joo, said the camp achieved its goal. He is confident that the members have increased their first aid knowledge, strengthened team spirit and self- discipline. He also thanked the officers for sacrificing their holiday for activities that bring benefits to the members.

SJAM Sandakan area President, Datuk Kong Kwok Wah, officiated at the closing ceremony last Sunday.He hoped that all management and leadership knowledge gained by participants can be extended to each school division.

Kong urged the SJAM State representatives who participated in the event to continue providing assistance and support to SJAM areas.The Best ambulance Cadet Award given to Mohd Idham of SMK Sandakan and the best Nursing Cadets given to Angel Xavier Owen Lim from SMK Beluran.
