Keningau: The Sabah Parks have called for action against people whose activities have cause environmental damage particularly on some of the major rivers here. Its officer Thomas Yussop complained that irresponsible individuals have cut levelled hills to build houses and cut trees along both ends of the Papar-Keningau highway in Kimanis.

"Did they get an approval? Their actions have caused environmental damage especially to the Pampang, Kimanis, Bayayo rivers," he said during a meeting with representatives from Tenom, Keningau and Nabawan on the promotion of local tourism products recently.

Calling on the authorities to take action, Thomas claimed that only three rivers spared from being polluted as a result of such activities.

He said all the rivers run across many other districts and the pollution would affect clean water supply to 2 million people.

Earlier in the meeting, the representatives unanimously agreed to come up with tourism packages to get more visitors to visit the interior.

Among the packages are the World War II memorial, Murut Cultural Centre, Sabah Agriculture Park, Trusmadi mountain, Maliau Basin, Batu Punggul and the Oath Stone.
