SUBANG JAYA: The police have detained four men believed to be involved in altering Employees Provident Fund (EPF) statements to obtain loans from financial institutions on Monday. In an operation about 7pm, a Subang Jaya Commercial CID team nabbed the suspects aged between 21 to 45.

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the modus operandi was to alter the EPF statement of a borrower before submitting it to several banks for personal loan application.

"The suspects will amend the amount and date of the EPF statement by pasting paper on the specific detail and copying them several times until it could not be detected by bank officers.

"Apart from that, they also targeted financial institutions which provide personal loans to obtain fast approval," he told reporters at a media conference at the Subang Jaya police contingent headquarters.

He said initial investigations found the group had duped two banks involving a total of RM27,800.

"Several equipment including a photostating machine, five sheets of EPF statements that had been doctored and a paper cutter were believed used for the fraud," he said.

Mohammad Azlin said the suspects were remanded for three days until tomorrow, and the case was investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – Bernama
