Kota Kinabalu: About 11,000 participants took part in the 'Tatap Bah Sayang Cikgu' run held in conjunction with the 2016 national-level Teachers' Day Celebration, here, Saturday.The run, which started and ended at the Parade Ground, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), was organised by the Utusan Group in collaboration with the Education Ministry.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid flagged off the run at 7am which was participated by teachers, students and members of the public.

Also present was Sabah Education Department Director Maimunah Suhaibul.
The run was divided into eight categories namely Veteran Men (10km); Veteran Women (10km); Men's Open (10km); Women's Open (10km); Secondary School (Boys) (7km); Secondary School (Girls) (7km); Primary Schools (Boys) (3km) and Primary Schools (Girls) (3km).
Winners of every category received RM1,000 in cash (champion); RM800 (runner-up); RM600 (third placing) besides consolation prizes in the form of medals, hampers and participation certificates.
The champions of the eight categories were Yusop Tungkod (Veteran Men); Kona Liau (Veteran Women); Sapirin Sumping (Men's Open); Eyeliah Rubidi (Women's Open); Raymond Yew (Boys' Secondary Schools); Arena Satu Samin (Girls' Secondary Schools); Mohamad Iqbal Arifai (Boys' Primary Schools) and Kylie Wong Kai Li (Girls' Primary Schools).
At the festival, a bicycle pedalling ride for 11km from Padang Merdeka to UMS was also held with the theme 'Kayuhan Untukmu Cikgu'.
