Actress Lydiawati claims trial to causing hurt

Kuala Lumpur: A popular actress of the 80's era was charged in the Ampang Magistrate's Court here Monday to hurting a woman in March.Salina Zaimon, 51, popularly known as Lydiawati, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Haslinda A. Raof.Lydiawati, who became popular through the movie 'Suami, Isteri dan ...', was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to a Brunei businesswoman, Sharifah Harnizam Wan Musa, 43, while using a steel object.

The single mother of two was alleged to have committed the offence at Hotel Safari 2, Lot 52 Jalan Mamanda 9, Ampang here at 6.30pm on March 24.Lydiawati was given bail of RM3,300 in one surety and the case was fixed on June 24 for mention. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihanah Abd Razak urged the court to impose bail of RM5,000 in one surety for the accused. Lawyer Fatimah Zahrah Ramli, representing Lydiawati requested for leniency, on the grounds that her client had to support her two children who are still studying overseas and at a local secondary school.

Morover, she said Lydiawati did not have a fixed income and had to undergo monthly treatment at the National Heart Institute here. On March 25, Lydiawati had uploaded two videos on her Facebook account, allegedly showing her beating up a woman. – Bernama
